Treehouse Celebrates 30th Birthday

By Spencer Sheridan, Treehouse Event Coordinator

The dark orange haze from the British Columbia and Washington wildfires cleared just in time for 200 guests to gather in celebration of Treehouse’s 30th birthday and taste local beer, wine, cider and spirits on August 23.

Hosted by our Young Professionals Board (YPB), a networking board comprised of leaders from diverse professions and affiliations focused on community engagement, advocacy and fundraising, Taste for Treehouse introduces new supporters to our mission and programs while raising awareness about foster care.

This year was our biggest event yet. More money was raised and more folks were introduced to Treehouse than any prior Taste for Treehouse events. In addition to enjoying the rooftop party, attendees took tours of our free store, where more than 500 youth in foster care shopped for back-to-school clothes and supplies that they needed to set them up for a great first day.

The highlight of the night was hearing from Connor, a Treehouse youth who spoke about how his relationship with his Treehouse Education Specialist has helped him to excel in high school while also allowing him to pursue his passion for vocal performance and acting. Connor talked about how Treehouse paid for his driver’s license and continues to pay for his insurance. He belted out an outstanding rendition of “The Lonely” by Christina Perri.

People and companies from all over the community came together to support youth in foster care. Pizzas were donated by Pizza Hut, six different local bakeries provided desserts, and more than 20 breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries donated drinks. Our event sponsors covered the cost of putting on the event so that every penny raised went directly to supporting youth. Local musicians DJ Zeta Barber and Unite-One kept the mood fun and festive while guests from all over western Washington bid on silent auction items and played games like the wine bottle ring toss and balloon darts.

Taste for Treehouse would not have been possible without the many hours of work from the YPB Taste committee: Chandler Gayton, Elaine Eugenio, Heidi Funston, Justin Holzwarth, Kelsey Dahlgren, Laura Turczanski, Liz Klein, Natasha Rivers and Nikki Carsley. Our amazing event co-chairs, Katie Wall and Rebecca Meissner, worked tirelessly to pull off a flawless fundraiser.
