How to Access Treehouse Services
Our goal is for every child and youth in foster care in Washington state to have a Treehouse referral submitted for services.
Referrals are accepted from:
- Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Social Workers
- Case Managers (Must be private agency for foster care or YMCA Young Adult Services staff)
- Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/Guardian ad litem
- Attorneys representing youth
- Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), school district and school staff members (foster care liaisons, school counselors, building points of contact or other school staff)
- Tribal or Federal Foster Care caseworkers
Referrals must be made in order for youth to access the Treehouse Store, Just-in-Time Funding, Educational Advocacy and/or Graduation Success. If you are a caregiver, please check with the social worker/care team to confirm if a Treehouse referral was submitted. Caregivers are unable to submit referrals.
Special Note About Referrals for Launch Success, Driver’s Assistance and Holiday Magic
Launch Success has their own referral process and intake system. More information about how to submit a referral for the program may be found on the program’s webpage.
It is not necessary to make a referral specifically for our Driver’s Assistance program. Eligible youth, their caregivers or their social workers can make requests for funding via our website, with or without a previous Treehouse referral.
It is not necessary to make a referral for Holiday Magic. Treehouse receives a list of all eligible youth each year. To learn more about Holiday Magic, click here.

Referral FAQ
- If this is your first time making a referral, please visit referrals.treehouseforkids.org and click on the “Request an Account” button. You will be taken to a registration page and asked to fill in some basic information about yourself. Your account will then be reviewed and approved within two business days, and you will receive further information about logging in.
- Once your account is set up, go to our Referral page and click on “My Referrals” in the navigation bar on the top of the screen. Review the list to make sure that you have not previously submitted a referral for the youth.
- If the youth does not already have a referral listed, click “Add Referral” at the top or bottom of the screen. Please fill out as much of the referral form as you can. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Click “Submit” at the bottom of the page to submit your referral.
- If the youth already has a referral listed, you can update their information by clicking on the pencil icon near their name.
Please note that caregivers are not eligible to create an account and that they are unable to submit referrals.
You should update referrals any time demographic information about the youth changes (such as their school, caregiver, etc.) and/or any time you would like a youth to be referred for a specific education program.
For resources programs, you will also need to update all referrals on an annual basis. Our current referral year runs July 1 through June 30, and we accept updated/new referrals starting June 1 for the following year.
Youth already engaged in the Graduation Success academic support program do not need an annual referral and will be automatically be rolled over to the new referral year.
For Educational Advocacy, youth are referred when an immediate need arises. Referrals last through the remainder of that school year.
Any referral entered into this website is automatically uploaded into our system. If you would like to double-check, please contact Treehouse at [email protected].
Referrals are usually processed within 3-4 business days, but it may take up to a week for referred youth to be able to receive Treehouse services.
For the Educational Advocacy academic support program, we will contact social workers and caregivers within a week. For all other services, we generally reach out to the caregiver directly within 3-4 days. You are welcome to contact Treehouse at [email protected] at any time to discuss a youth’s case.
