How to Access Treehouse Services

Our goal is for every child and youth in foster care in Washington state to have a Treehouse referral submitted for services.

Referrals are accepted from:

  • DCYF Social Workers
  • Case Managers (Must be private agency for foster care or YMCA Young Adult Services staff)
  • CASAs
  • Attorneys representing youth
  • Washington State OSPI (foster care liaisons, school counselors, or other school staff)
  • Tribal or Federal Foster Care caseworkers

Referrals must be made in order for youth to access the Treehouse Store, Just-in-Time Funding, Educational Advocacy, and/or Graduation Success. If you are a caregiver, please check with the social worker/care team to confirm if a Treehouse referral was submitted. Caregivers are unable to submit referrals.

Special Note About Referrals for Launch Success and Driver’s Assistance

Launch Success has their own referral processing and intake system. More information about how to submit a referral for the program may be found on the program’s webpage.

It is not necessary to make a referral specifically for our Driver’s Assistance program. Eligible youth, their caregivers, or their social workers can make requests for funding via our website, with or without a previous Treehouse referral.

New to Treehouse? Please review our Referral FAQ to learn how to submit a referral.

Program Year Updates

Our referral cycle is changing to better align all of our programs. Referrals for the current program year will only be accepted until the end of April and we will not be accepting referrals during the month of May. We will begin accepting referrals for the 2022-2023 program year in June. Youth in Graduation Success and Launch Success do not need new referrals for the new program year.

Referral FAQ

How do I submit a referral to Treehouse?
  1. If this is your first time making a referral, please visit and click on the “Request an Account” button. You will be taken to a registration page and asked to fill in some basic information about yourself. Your account will then be reviewed and approved within two business days, and you will receive further information about logging in.
  2. Once your account is set up, go to our Referral page and click on “My Referrals” in the navigation bar on the top of the screen. Review the list to make sure that you have not previously submitted a referral for the youth.
  3. If the youth does not already have a referral listed, click “Add Referral” at the top or bottom of the screen. Please fill out as much of the referral form as you can. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Click “Submit” at the bottom of the page to submit your referral.
  4. If the youth already has a referral listed, you can update their information by clicking on the pencil icon near their name.

Please note that caregivers are not eligible to create an account and that they are unable to submit referrals.

How often should I update referral information for each youth?

You should update referrals any time demographic information about the youth changes (such as their school, caregiver, etc.) and/or any time you would like a youth to be referred for a specific education program.

You will also need to update all referrals on an annual basis. Our current referral year runs August 1st through July 31st, and we accept updated/new referrals starting each July 1st for the following year.

Youth already engaged in the Graduation Success academic support program do not need an annual referral and will be automatically be rolled over to the new referral year.

How do I know if my referral was received?

Any referral entered into this website is automatically uploaded into our system. If you would like to double-check, please contact Treehouse at [email protected].

How long will it take before the youth I referred can receive services?

Referrals are usually processed within 3-4 business days, but it may take up to a week for referred youth to be able to receive Treehouse services.

When will the caregivers and I hear from someone about services for this youth?

For the Educational Advocacy academic support program, we will contact social workers and caregivers within a week. For all other services, we generally reach out to the caregiver directly within 3-4 days. You are welcome to contact Treehouse at [email protected] at any time to discuss a youth’s case.
