Staff Member Finds Childhood Thank You Note She Wrote to Treehouse
Treehouse’s Daquawya Finley recently found a thank you letter in our archives that she wrote as a teenager in foster care.
“When I first saw the letter, I immediately recognized the handwriting,” Daquawya said.
In the letter, she thanks Treehouse for paying for her to attend summer camp.
“The camp I went to was Camp Sealth. It was a lot of fun,” she said.
Daquawya, a Collaborative Analytics and Innovation (CAI) Coordinator at Treehouse, has been working here since 2013. She first started on our Little Wishes team. The program pays for summer camps and other experiences, as well as essentials such as clothing and school supplies.
“Finding this letter definitely made me reflect on all of the great letters I received while working in Little Wishes and how my letter did not compare,” she said. “My thank you notes have definitely improved since 2006, when the letter was written.”
When she was in foster care, Daquawya also shopped in our free store and received assistance preparing for college.
She works at Treehouse to pay it forward for youth who are currently in foster care.
“I really enjoy partnering with all of the great teams that make up the organization,” she said.
In her current role as CAI Coordinator, Daquawya manages data quality to ensure completeness and accuracy.
“The reports I work on now improve our work and impact the lives of youth in care in a very positive way,” she said.
Treehouse didn’t have an analytics group when Daquawya first wrote her thank you note. A lot has changed since then.
“It’s beautiful to see how much Treehouse has evolved over the years,” she said. “I feel humbled and grateful to be a part of something so wonderful in our community.”
