Shalynn Makes it Just in Time for Graduation

On Shalynn’s graduation day, she received a call from her Treehouse Education Specialist Jonathan while in the midst of celebrating her graduation with her family. He asked her where she was because her graduation ceremony was about to begin.  Having lost track of time, she and her family quickly rushed out the door to her ceremony, making it just in time to walk.

That day – her high school graduation – was emotional and significant for her, her family and Jonathan. When he first met her a year ago, she had no desire to keep going with school. As part of the Graduation Success program, she met with him weekly to talk about her academic progress.

Every time they met, “I knew he was going to ask about my grades,” she said. “It was a nice motivation to have.”

As she reached her goals, she received gift cards as incentives. She was also able to get her senior pictures and graduation invitations paid for through Treehouse’s Just-in-Time Funding program.

“Treehouse offers programs that support us financially,” she said when talking about what makes Treehouse different from other programs. “There are not many organizations that I have heard of that can help us financially. They made it possible for me to get enrolled into driver’s education and get my license, which is how I was able to get a job.”

Shalynn graduated in June with a 4.0 GPA from Spokane Valley High School and now studying culinary arts at Spokane Community College.
