Janis Avery’s roots run deep at Treehouse. She joined the Seattle nonprofit as CEO in 1995 and has led the agency’s efforts to help children in foster care ever since.
Treehouse was founded in 1988 by a group of foster care social workers who wanted to fill the unmet needs of the foster kids they served. Funded by bake sales and car washes, they provided birthday presents, school supplies and other childhood basics that children in foster care often lack.
