Making the World a Better Place

By Tamika, Treehouse Student

While the world is changing dramatically, I believe there is always someone that has a dream to make a difference in this world. The start to making a better world begins with me. It wasn’t easy for me growing up. My life has never been a fairy tale like in the movies you watch or the books you read. I would see people holding signs and living under bridges. I would think to myself, “What did they do to deserve that?” Since the world is changing dramatically, do we ever stop and wonder, “What can I do to change the world?”

One day, I have goals of becoming fashion designer who lives in Paris. I hope to not only create new fashion designs, but also using my talents to help those who need clothes. Even though I am young, I still believe that I have the power to change the world. There are things that I can do to help better the world that we live in. For example, I can volunteer my time to help people in need by going out to volunteer with a food bank or by donating clothes to a homeless shelter. A little change can lead to even greater change.

All the time, I hear things like, “You’re just a kid! What can you possibly do to change the world?” Well, I might not be able to change the whole world, but I can and do have an impact! By recognizing the leader inside of me, I can lead by example to help others realize that there is always someone in need of a smile, a hug, or a helping hand.

One meaningful quote to me is one by Barack Obama:

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
