4 Ways to Make Holiday Giving a Family Affair This Winter

The holiday season is here, and for many, it’s a time to create cherished memories with loved ones.

For youth in foster care, however, this time of the year can be particularly challenging. You can help make their holidays a little bit brighter by giving back with your time, money and energy.

The holidays are also a great time to have meaningful conversations with your children about the importance of giving back and developing habits that can extend all year round.

Here are four ways you can involve your family and create new traditions together this holiday season:

Set up a peer-to-peer fundraising page or make a donation directly to Treehouse!

Fundraising helps us round out the inventory in the Treehouse Store, ship items to youth statewide and continue providing vital programs.

You can get creative with many different ways to raise money, such as a raffle at your office holiday party, bake sale or movie night with an entry “fee”. Simply sharing your fundraiser with your network helps introduce people to how they can support youth in foster care and that makes an impact!

Before going out the door for holiday shopping, bring Treehouse donation tags with you!

Donation tags are an easy way to support youth in foster care while you are doing your shopping this holiday season. Each tag has a youth’s age and three gift options listed for you to choose from. You can buy as many items on the tag as you would like and then take them directly to Treehouse. No gift wrapping required!

Follow these steps to participate:

  1. Sign up as a drive host.
  2. Review the list of winter supply needs.
  3. Cut out gift tags and circle categories for your gift.
  4. Pick out and buy item(s) at a store or from the Treehouse wish list.
  5. Deliver to Treehouse in-person or via mail (2100 24th Ave. S, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98144).
  6. On social media, share a photo of your family with the donation tag(s) and item(s) you purchased for deserving youth in foster care and spread the word about the wish list (available at treehouseforkids.org/wishlist). Make sure you tag us!

There are many volunteer opportunities available in November and December that are perfect for families or small groups.

Whether it’s fulfilling online orders in the Treehouse Store or supporting administrative needs in our office, volunteers play a vital role in supporting the youth in Treehouse programs.

Over 230 individuals have already registered to volunteer in the month of December alone, so these events are booking up quickly.

Current volunteer opportunities:

  • Holiday Helper: Join us in the Treehouse Store to make the holiday season magical for youth in foster care. Holiday helpers will work on stocking the floor, providing customer service, sorting/organizing donations and pulling online requests.
  • Treehouse Administrative Support: Volunteers will join staff in the Treehouse offices to help us complete administrative tasks. Volunteers may potentially also assist with tasks in the Store, including sorting and tagging donations.

We are bringing #TreehouseBingo back in a big way! It’s the traditional bingo game with a little twist, incorporating different ways to engage with Treehouse and your community.

Keep track of ways you support youth in foster care and your community from now through Friday, January 5, 2024, by completing an action in the matching square. If you already do things on the card like follow us on Instagram or receive our email updates, you can mark those spaces as complete.

When you have reached bingo, submit your card to us at [email protected], and you’ll be entered to win some amazing prizes from the Treehouse community.

Email your completed card by:

  • November 30 for a chance to win a $200 Bellevue Collection gift card and Treehouse swag.
  • December 20 for a chance to win a $150 Safeway gift card, a glassybaby and Treehouse swag.
  • January 5 for a chance to win a $150 Safeway gift card, a signed copy of “You Are the Prize” by Amnoni Myers and Treehouse swag.
