5 in 5: Quick Ways to Show Support During Foster Care Month
If you are looking for a way to get started, here are five things you can do in five minutes:
1. Spring Clean for The Wearhouse, Our Free Store for Youth in Foster Care
You can donate new and like-new clothes, toys, books, shoes, athletic equipment and more to The Wearhouse, Treehouse’s very own store where caregivers and youth can shop for free. You also can host a virtual donation drive and collect monetary donations online.
Youth who have experienced foster care are graduating at less than half the rate of their peers, except in areas where Treehouse’s Graduation Success program supports them. Use our super easy template to send an email to your senator urging them to pass a state budget that renews and expands funding for Graduation Success, so all youth can have the support they need to complete high school with a plan for the future.
3. Sign Up for a Volunteer Orientation
From answering phones to serving on a committee, to providing homework help to sorting donations in the Wearhouse, there is a volunteer opportunity to match your interests, skills and schedule. We also offer group volunteer activities for your workplace, family or organization. Read more about our current opportunities and sign up for an orientation to get plugged in.
4. Spread the Word on Facebook or Twitter
Many people know a little about foster care, but they often don’t realize the barriers that youth in care face or how they can help. Broaden the circle of support for youth in foster care by sharing Treehouse’s video with your social networks.
We rely on your generous support to make serving 7,000-plus youth in foster care possible. There are many ways to give, and charitable gifts to Treehouse are tax-deductible.
