Educational Justice for Students Experiencing Foster Care
Students in foster care don’t lack ability or drive—they lack stability and meaningful support. At every turn, these students experience things beyond their control that create bigger barriers—placement changes, school moves, misaligned graduation requirements, and so much more.
While Treehouse knows how to navigate these challenges, we need to address their root causes—not just respond to them. To achieve our goal of high school graduation for youth in foster care, we must build a world where foster care, schools, and communities work together by design, not by luck.
A Force for Systemic Change
Thanks to Treehouse advocacy leadership, Washington state has some of the strongest foster care education law in the country. However, passing laws does not guarantee they work in practice.
Treehouse leads policy and practice improvements at the intersection of the education and child welfare systems to ensure all students who experience foster care have a real path to graduation. Our work to improve systems is grounded in what we’ve learned from decades of direct service—we are scaling what we know works.
