Starting the Year at the Treehouse Store

By Linsey Hunt, Marketing & Communications Intern

Though our services have been modified because of the pandemic, the staff at the Treehouse Store have been working to ensure youth in foster care have the clothing and materials they need to start 2021 on the right foot.

Read on to see what some of our youth and caregivers picked up in the Store recently, from coats and scarves to cozy blankets.

While checking out her items during our open-air garage shopping event last month, a caregiver shared with staff that she came looking to stock up on clothes for all three of the kids in her care and especially needed winter coats. She found several warm-weather items, including coats for all of the kids and said her shopping experience was a success.

A caregiver brought the two sisters in her care with her. At checkout, the girls shared how excited they were about all the items they found. They were particularly excited about a pink dress with a full tutu skirt and a pair of sparkly animal purses. When they got home, their caregiver sent us this picture with this note: “This is a dress my girl found today. She’s over the moon!!! Thank you, Treehouse!”

A youth was shopping with his foster parent during one of our events and found several fuzzy blankets. While he was checking out, he shared with a volunteer that he “LOVES blankets” and was really excited to add these new additions to his collection.

One little one came to their caregiver with very few outfits that fit her. Her family put in an online order to the Store. She received toys, games, clothes and an amazing doll named “Julie.” The caregiver said words cannot express how much she adores Julie and the beautiful outfits she came with!

One caregiver wanted to let us know their appreciation during one of our COVID-safe shopping events: “Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. You have made this easier for us to get the things we need for our kids even in these uncertain times.”

During a recent teen shopping event, one caregiver was looking for the right items for their teen. They told us: “I found everything my kid likes. It was so perfect! Thank you.”

At another event, a caregiver asked if we had any boots. After checking our stock in the back, a staff member was able to find a pair of fuzzy winter boots in the youth’s size. When the staff member handed the boots to the caregiver and youth, the youth’s eyes lit up with excitement and she said: “Those are perfect!”

Make sure the Treehouse Store is stocked with everything our youth need. Purchase items from our wish list to be shipped directly to us at treehouseforkids.org/wishlist.
