Newport Presbyterian Church Chooses Treehouse as Featured Mission Partner
Newport Presbyterian Church (NPC) has supported Treehouse for over a decade, and this summer, we had the good fortune to be their chosen “Featured Mission Partner.”
Two of our longstanding supporters are members of the church—Ann Huber, who leads the infant and toddler department in The Wearhouse, our free store for youth in foster care, and Linda Hunter, who has stepped into many roles for us, including serving on the Board of Directors.
This spring, we started making a plan that would engage their congregation in all aspects of our back-to-school season over the summer months.
We kicked things off by having a group of eight volunteers come to assemble the back-to-school donation drive packets in June. These packets include all of the tools and resources drive hosts need to plan a successful donation drive. This project normally takes a couple of weeks with an assortment of volunteers working on different components here and there. The volunteers from NPC were able to start and finish the project in one day!
Two groups of volunteers came during the month of August to help sort incoming donations and prepare merchandise to go into The Wearhouse. The congregation responded to the shifts with enthusiasm, and 22 volunteers came over the course of those two shifts.
The back-to-school donation drive was the third initiative NPC coordinated this summer. The donation drive helped build awareness and has allowed the broader congregation to take an active role in supporting youth in foster care, even if their busy August schedules prohibited them from volunteering with us in person.
Our back-to-school season was enhanced by having NPC’s continuous support throughout the summer, and we hope they feel even more connected to Treehouse as a result. Huge thanks to Linda and Ann, whose personal passion for youth in foster care was no doubt an inspiration for the NPC congregation to take action.
