Many Reasons to Be Thankful at Treehouse
We have a lot of reasons to be thankful here at Treehouse this holiday season. For the last 30 days, we have been celebrating by sharing our gratitude for our youth, volunteers, donors, caregivers, community partners and more on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with our #30daysofthanks posts.
Youth and Caregivers
Our youth, past and present, are the reason why we do what we do. We are amazed every day by their perseverance in the face of adversity.
“I’m thankful for the enduring resiliency of our youth, whom I’m inspired by every day.”
— Sherry Edwards, Treehouse Senior Education Specialist
We also work with a lot of caregivers who share our mission of giving youth in foster care a childhood and a future. We appreciate their dedication.
“I’d like to thank all of the amazing foster parents in my community. I want to thank them for being an integral part of the team when it comes to removing barriers for foster youth in school. It is so rewarding to prepare a foster parent for a school meeting and know they are armed with the right information to advocate for their child. Their voice at the table is unparalleled.
“I also want to thank our respite care providers who step in when no one else can and sometimes on moments notice. Our foster parents truly make the difference and I’m so thankful for them and the relationships I’ve built with them as an educational advocate.”
— Laycee Weier, Treehouse Senior Educational Advocate
Volunteers
We could not do the work we do without the support of our volunteers. Here are some examples of the people who generously give their time to support youth in foster care:
We appreciate the consistency and commitment our Graduation Success volunteer tutors make to the middle and high school students with whom they work.
Three volunteers have generously donated their time to support our Holiday Magic team this year. Thanks to Emily, Janell and Carol for making the season bright for youth in foster care.
We recently held the final high school student volunteer shift of 2018 in our free store. (We’ll have more next year.) We deeply appreciate the time these teens take to support other kids and youth in their community.
Community Partners
We are truly thankful for the community we have working to support youth in foster care.
“I would like to thank all of the office staff at my schools in Northshore and Riverview school districts. They are my eyes and ears when I am at other schools, and they are extremely helpful in finding me space and helping me meet with students.”
— Mary Iannuzzi, Treehouse Senior Education Specialist
A group of Renton CarMax employees recently nominated us for a $10,000 donation to our Graduation Success program. That group of employees also volunteered in our free store, where they helped us unload a big holiday donation from Hasbro and sort items.
Emerald City Pizza is a partner that does it all. They sponsor events, regularly volunteer in our free store and raise money and awareness through their annual Have a Heart campaign. They are always there for us when we put out a call for support.
Boeing has been an outstanding community partner. Employees at the Renton 737 Plant recently raised $12,500 for us, and we are thrilled to yet again be involved in their annual Season of Giving program, which raises funding for Holiday Magic.
This fall, HomeStreet Bank included us in their Vote Your Heart campaign. Thanks to online votes from our community of supporters, the bank donated $5,000 to Treehouse.
Donors
We posted a call to donate new and gently used Halloween costumes on our social media, and our followers came through. These donations made Halloween happier for the youth we serve in our free store.
Our growing community of monthly supporters, the Builders, are working with us to create a road to hope and possibility for youth in foster care. We are beyond grateful for their commitment.
