Treehouse and Ruby Room Host the Prom Event

The Treehouse Prom Event 2011 was a success! Thanks to all who helped make this event such a great experience and thanks to all the Treehouse youth who joined us! If you know of a youth that is in need of a formal dress and was not able to make it to this year’s event, please have them contact the Ruby Room to make an appointment at www.rubyroomseattle.org. If you would like to help out with next year’s event please call the Little Wishes line at 206-267-5125.

Event Background:

For many girls in the foster care system attending their prom is simply too expensive and remains a dream out of their reach. Treehouse's Little Wishes program, in partnership with Ruby Room, will change that for close to one hundred girls this year through the Prom Event.

At this one day event girls are treated like royalty as they shop for a dress, get appointments for free prom hair stylings, get tips on make-up, and find that perfect pair of shoes. But we can’t do it without the generous support of our community.

Below is our wishlist for this annual event, and we will gratefully accept donations this January through March for the 2012 prom season. So, please keep us in mind as you clean out your closets of your fancy shoes, prom style dresses, and that glittering pair of rhinestone earrings. Then encourage your friends to do the same and bring it all down to Treehouse. Your donations will be put to use making prom night a reality for girls living in foster care.

Collecting donations is as easy as asking your friends and family to donate what they can. You can set-up a collection spot at  your club, Church, local community center, or school. We have collection barrells and all the materials you need to advertise.

You can also make the Prom Event special by donating gift cards, home-made or store bought treats, or volunteering at the event. We also steam all of the dresses ahead of time, so anyone with a steamer would be greatly appreciated.

Gift cards will be used as raffle prizes and to supplement donated items. Please keep in mind that gift cards to businesses that only have one or two locations may not be accessible to all of our girls as we serve foster youth from all over King County.
