Foster Care Awareness Month
May is National Foster Care Month, a time when we give special acknowledgement to the people who make a difference in the lives of foster kids by serving as foster parents, relative caregivers, mentors, advocates, social workers, and volunteers.

It’s also a time when we are often asked our favorite question: how can one person make a meaningful impact on the life of a foster child? Find out how you can make a difference here.

Town Hall Meeting – Fostering Young Brains
featuring John Medina & William Bell

Presented by Treehouse, Amara, Casey Family Programs & Town Hall

A child’s brain will grow biologically along with the rest of his body—but science shows that for a child’s brain to develop and thrive, environmental conditions play a vital role and emotional stability at home is the single greatest predictor of a child’s academic success. How can we ensure that all of our community’s children, including the most vulnerable kids in foster care, have the stability and educational supports they need to thrive? In this exploration of the relationship between stable families, growing brains, and a child’s ability to thrive, renowned Seattle scientist John Medina, author of the bestselling books Brain Rules and Brain Rules for Baby, discusses why stability is so crucial to a child’s brain development; William Bell, president and CEO of Casey Family Programs and national thought leader in child welfare, will speak to the importance of permanence and educational outcomes for children in foster care.

Advance tickets are $5 at www.townhallseattle.org or 888/377-4510 and at the door beginning at 7 pm. Great Hall; enter on Eighth Avenue.

Presented by KING5

Don’t miss the whirling, twirling holiday fun at the Holiday Carousel presented by King 5 benefiting Treehouse!

The Carousel opens at Westlake Plaza in downtown Seattle on November 29 and runs through January 1. The suggested donation of $2 supports Treehouse programs and the great work of the Downtown Seattle Association!

For additional details and hours of operation, click here.

Interested in volunteering at the Holiday Carousel?

You’re invited to join our wonderful group of volunteers to help greet riders, collect donations, and sell tickets! Invite your friends, family or coworkers to take part in this festive tradition! For additional information, please contact carousel@treehouseforkids.org.

If you’re planning to do some holiday shopping while you’re downtown, we also invite you to pick up one of the famous Treehouse holiday shopping bags, fill it with a donation, and drop it back by the Carousel. This year, the bags will also be available for pick-up at the Seattle Center Monorail station – a quick, fun and convenient transportation alternative to holiday parking costs and traffic downtown.

So bundle up, come downtown, pick your favorite horse, and be part of the magic. We look forward to celebrating with you soon.
