And it’s no wonder; with each school change, a child loses four to six months of academic progress, and foster kids change schools far more often than most kids. It’s easy to understand why foster kids tend to have low expectations for themselves in school. But ongoing involvement in a structured after-school tutoring program changes the prognosis.
